If you are like me, then you are not fortunate enough to own a Playstation 3 yet. But I have already decided that a Playstation 3 would be a compelling choice because I love all of the options that come with the system (or supposed to anyway). I think that the Playstation 3 is a fine choice as opposed to the Microsoft 360 and the Nintendo Wii for at least 3 reasons. Blu-ray support, the built-in web browser, and video chat.
1) The Playstation 3 comes with a Blu-Ray drive that features high-definition movies with stunning quality and performance. I assume that the the games are in this format too; and that contributes to games with the most realism and eye candy to date.
2) The built-in browser is another feature I love about the PS3 and it can display 6 web pages simultaneously. I’ll be looking forward to using this system for all of my web browsing at super speed in place my current computer.
3) Online games are fun when you can play them without the lags times and other hiccups that occur with regular online gaming. Plus they will have a variety of titles to choose from in the near future.
In addition to these features, I would love to see is the Linux Operating System that would let me use the PS3 as a stand alone PC which would enable me to tap into the power of the Cell Processor. The video chat feature is another favorite that I could find many uses for as well as games. You could also take photos and make home movies with the Eye Toy like camera that is compatible with the system. The @Home feature is set to become the next Second Life-at least you will be able to interact in a more visually stuning virtual world setting (hopefully) than Second Life.
I would not mind spending $400-$600 on system that has so much to offer; it’s just that I cannot afford one yet. But I would rather spend the extra money for this value and leave the Wii and the 360 alone.
